Hyde Park Suzuki Institute Hosts Chicago Sinfonietta for Special MLK Community Concert
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Hyde Park ·
Hyde Park residents enjoyed a special musical treat this past weekend as the Hyde Park Suzuki Institute hosted members of the Chicago Sinfonietta string quartet for a free community concert on January 11. The event, held at the Institute's 5200 S. Hyde Park Boulevard location, featured renowned cellist and author Ed Moore discussing his work and its connection to the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations.
The Sunday afternoon performance provided an opportunity for neighborhood families to experience high-quality classical music in an intimate setting, reinforcing the Institute's mission of providing access to exceptional musical experiences for diverse communities. The Suzuki Institute, a cornerstone of Hyde Park's cultural education landscape since 1998, is known for its commitment to building community through music and offering free beginner group lessons to expose children to musical opportunities.
Community members interested in exploring more local artistic offerings can also attend the Hyde Park Community Players' upcoming performances, including auditions for "MonteCristo2020," an original musical inspired by Alexandre Dumas' classic novel. The Players recently presented their New Works Mini-Festival featuring ultra-short plays written, directed, and performed by Hyde Park neighbors.
