New Mural Project Set to Transform Damen-Leland Corner in Ravenswood
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Ravenswood ·
The Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce and Special Service Area #31 are seeking artist proposals for an exciting new mural project on Damen Avenue. The artwork will be situated at the northeast corner of Damen and Leland, adjacent to a popular "People Space" where residents frequently gather to unwind and enjoy coffee.
This creative initiative aims to strengthen connections between local artists and residents while showcasing the neighborhood's vibrant artistic community. The project, which comes with a $5,000 budget covering artist fees, supplies, permits, and travel expenses, also hopes to encourage greater use of the Damen-Leland People Space. The new mural will join Ravenswood's impressive collection of public art, including the Ravenswood Sculpture Garden along Ravenswood Avenue between Lawrence and Irving Park Road, which has become a magical attraction that pays homage to the neighborhood's creative spirit while drawing visitors to local small businesses.
Residents interested in viewing the neighborhood's existing public art can explore murals like "Ravenswood Walls of Togetherness" by Mac Blackout at Lawrence and Ravenswood avenues, or submit their ideas for the new installation. Property owners considering hosting public art on blank walls are encouraged to complete an interest form through the Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce website.
