West Englewood residents have cause for celebration as city officials recently announced plans to build a new, modern fieldhouse in historic Ogden Park. The Chicago Park District Board has approved a design contract for the $25 million project, which will be partially funded by
The 60-acre Ogden Park, one of West Englewood's largest recreational anchors, currently includes a gymnasium, boxing gym, fitness center, and various outdoor amenities including playgrounds, a carousel, nature garden, swimming pool, and sports facilities. The current fieldhouse, built in 1904, has long been considered outdated for the active community that uses the park year-round. The planned facility will feature a full gymnasium, dedicated boxing gym, fitness room, dance studio, teen room, clubroom, and updated support spaces.
Community engagement on the detailed design of the new fieldhouse is expected to begin in spring 2026. West Englewood residents interested in providing input can look forward to participating in upcoming design sessions. "This new fieldhouse will expand the opportunities available to young people, families, and seniors across the neighborhood," said Mayor Brandon Johnson, highlighting the project's significance in creating spaces that build community pride and belonging.
