Oakland Community Hub Launches Winter Wellness Series as Neighborhood Trail Plans Advance

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Oakland ·

Oakland residents have a new opportunity to prioritize health and community connection this winter as the Kenwood Oakland Community Organization (KOCO) launched its Winter Wellness Series this week. The program, which began January 20, offers weekly sessions combining yoga, meditation, and nutrition workshops at KOCO's recently renovated headquarters on Cottage Grove Avenue.

The initiative builds on KOCO's ongoing commitment to neighborhood revitalization through educational and recreational programs for Oakland residents of all ages and interests, including exercise classes and wellness workshops. This community programming comes as Choose Chicago's new Neighborhood Wayfinding Initiative begins implementation across South Side neighborhoods, with signs being installed to help visitors and residents discover local businesses and cultural assets throughout areas including nearby Bronzeville.

Meanwhile, excitement continues to build around the Bronzeville Trail project, which will directly benefit Oakland residents. The ambitious development will extend the Red Line and create new transportation options connecting Oakland to surrounding communities, enhancing the neighborhood's accessibility. Residents interested in joining the Winter Wellness Series can register through KOCO's website or visit their office in person. The first twenty participants receive complimentary wellness kits featuring locally-sourced products from Oakland small businesses.
