Northwest Art Trail Launches Winter Illumination Series in Portage Park
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Portage Park ·
Portage Park residents can now enjoy a vibrant cultural experience with the Northwest Art Trail, a sculpture walk that connects Jefferson Park and Portage Park business districts along a 2-mile route on Milwaukee Avenue. The trail, which showcases 10 distinctive sculptures, five of which were newly installed, has become a popular destination since its official launch in October 2025.
For January 2026, the trail has been enhanced with a winter illumination series that highlights the sculptures during the darker evening hours. Each artwork features a brass plaque with details about the piece and its artist, with newer sculptures including braille translations for improved accessibility. Visitors can also access audio descriptions and information about surrounding local businesses through the Otocast app, making the experience more interactive for all community members.
"The NW Art Trail isn't just a celebration of art – it's a celebration of our community and the people who make it vibrant," said State Senator Robert Martwick, who helped Arts Alive Chicago conceive and launch the project. Residents are encouraged to use the interactive map on the nw-art-trail.com website to guide their exploration, connect with the art, and discover neighborhood shops and restaurants along this vibrant corridor during the winter season.
