McKinley Park families will soon have a new childcare option as the former St. Maurice Catholic school lunchroom at 3619 S. Hoyne Avenue is set to be transformed into a daycare center. According to recently issued building permits, the property is slated for renovation as part of ongoing development at the multi-building site that once housed St. Maurice Catholic Church.

The property was purchased by Pian Yue, owner of Smart Learning Centers, who also acquired the adjacent building housing Velma Thomas Early Childhood Center at 3625 S. Hoyne Avenue. Yue has expressed admiration for the historic church architecture, stating, "We love the church. We love the building." This commitment to preserving neighborhood character while expanding educational resources has been welcomed by community members.

Local real estate experts have highlighted the property's advantageous location in McKinley Park, noting its proximity to the Orange Line El station, excellent schools, and upcoming development projects on West 35th Street. "There's a lot of future there," observed one property specialist, reflecting the neighborhood's growing appeal for families and businesses alike. Residents interested in learning more about this development or enrollment opportunities can watch for updates as renovation progresses throughout early 2026.
