Historic West Loop Buildings at 900 W. Fulton Market Set for Innovative Redevelopment
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Loop ·
The West Loop's architectural landscape is evolving once again as the Chicago City Council recently approved plans for the redevelopment of the three-building property at 900 West Fulton Market. Developer Midwest Property Group will preserve and rehabilitate the two historic outer buildings while replacing the middle structure with a new five-story building that will seamlessly unify all three properties.
The project will create three new ground-floor storefronts and approximately 29,000 square feet of commercial space, including nearly 10,000 square feet of street-front retail. This thoughtful blend of preservation and modern development comes at a strategic moment, as the neighboring Time Out Market is set to close later this month, making this redevelopment crucial for maintaining vibrant activity on the block.
This approval represents another chapter in West Loop's ongoing transformation from its industrial roots to a dynamic mixed-use district. Residents interested in learning more about this development and other upcoming changes to the neighborhood can attend community meetings organized by the West Loop Community Organization, which continues to advocate for balanced growth that honors the area's historic character while embracing its future.
