JitneyEV Launches Electric Rideshare Service from New Bronzeville Headquarters

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Bronzeville ·

Bronzeville residents now have a greener transportation option with the official launch of JitneyEV's electric rideshare service operating from its newly established headquarters at 2416 S. Michigan Avenue. The innovative service, which began operations this month, aims to fill transit gaps while honoring the neighborhood's rich history.

The Bronzeville Community Development Partnership (BCDP) has transformed a historic Motor Row building into a multi-purpose facility that houses not only the JitneyEV operations but also a visitor center, community meeting space, and the Bronzeville-Black Metropolis National Heritage Area. "We want to tell the story of the Great Migration and how we're replicating that age of innovation in the 21st century," explains Billy Davis, JitneyEV's general manager. The service has already deployed its first electric vehicle and plans to add an electric passenger van soon, with public charging stations being installed at the headquarters.

Residents interested in using the hyperlocal rideshare service can download the JitneyEV app or visit their new headquarters for more information. The project represents a significant step toward equitable clean transportation in Bronzeville while creating green economy jobs for local residents. Community members are invited to an open house on Saturday, January 31st to tour the facility and learn more about electric vehicle options and benefits.
