McKinley Park residents will soon have a new way to showcase their green thumbs as the McKinley Park Civic Association announced plans for its inaugural neighborhood gardening contest this summer. The announcement was made during the association's January 7 meeting at the McKinley Park branch of the Chicago Public Library, where they also celebrated winners of their first-ever holiday decorating contest.

The holiday decorating competition, which received numerous submissions, awarded the Torres family first place for their creative seasonal display. Association President Chris Bania shared the organization's commitment to building community pride through these friendly competitions, stating the holiday contest would become an annual tradition. The upcoming gardening contest represents another step in the association's efforts to beautify the neighborhood and recognize residents' contributions to McKinley Park's vibrant community spirit.

Residents interested in participating in the summer gardening contest should watch for details at upcoming association meetings, including Chicago's Birthday Party scheduled for March 4, 2026. The civic association also plans their annual educators banquet in spring, continuing their tradition of bringing neighbors together through community-centered events.
