McKinley Park's 35th Street to Transform with New Public Art Installation Project

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Mckinley Park ·

McKinley Park residents will soon enjoy a more vibrant and welcoming 35th Street corridor thanks to a significant community improvement project launching this month. The McKinley Park Development Council has secured a $200,000 grant from The Chicago Community Trust to install public art, seating, and trash receptacles along West 35th Street, enhancing the neighborhood's main business district.

The initiative aims to create a business corridor that "reflects the community's cultural diversity, supports and attracts local businesses, enhances pedestrian safety and accessibility and uplifts local artists," according to council representatives. A key component of the project includes organizing matchmaking events to connect local business and property owners with mural artists, fostering creative collaborations throughout the corridor. The first artworks are scheduled for installation this summer, with the project continuing through fall 2027.

Neighborhood artists interested in participating in this community-centered beautification effort should watch for upcoming announcements from the McKinley Park Development Council. Residents can learn more about this exciting initiative at upcoming council meetings or by visiting the organization's website at mpdcchicago.org, where details about artist applications and community involvement opportunities will be posted.
