Green City Market Prepares for Grand Opening in North Center's New Permanent Location
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/North Center ·
The North Center community is abuzz with anticipation as Green City Market prepares to open its new permanent home at 2457 W. Montrose Ave. Executive Director Letisha Steele, who joined the nonprofit in 2025, has announced plans to host a community event as early as March, giving residents an exciting new resource focused on expanding accessibility to fresh, locally grown food.
The former garden center, which the organization purchased in December for $899,000, is being transformed into a year-round farmers market that will complement Green City's seasonal outdoor locations. Community members can look forward to various activities in the new space, including chef-led demonstrations and educational programs that will now have a dedicated home in North Center. The location's proximity to public transportation makes it particularly accessible, situated near several bus routes and about half a mile from the Brown Line's Western stop.
North Center residents interested in exploring this new community hub can follow Green City Market's website for updates on the upcoming March event and future programming. The Northcenter Chamber of Commerce, which exists to help grow businesses and strengthen the community, welcomes this addition to the neighborhood's diverse offerings of dining, shops, and family-friendly experiences.
