West Rogers Park Historical Exhibit Celebrates Community Service Through the Decades

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Rogers Park ·

West Rogers Park residents have a unique opportunity to explore their neighborhood's rich history of community service at the Northtown branch library. The exhibit 'Rogers Park and West Ridge: A History of Neighbors in Service' will remain on display through December 31, 2025, showcasing the neighborhood's tradition of community engagement dating back to the early twentieth century.

The exhibit uses fliers, brochures, newsletters, and other historical documents to illustrate how West Rogers Park residents have built diverse and meaningful communities over generations. Highlights include the impactful work of the Rogers Park Woman's Club and North Town Woman's Club, the evolution of local block clubs and community groups, the neighborhood's increasing ethnic diversity, and the unique histories of local parks. The exhibition celebrates the partnership between the Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society and Chicago Public Library's Northside Neighborhood History Collection. The Society transferred most of their paper archival documents to the Northside Neighborhood History Collection at Sulzer Regional Library between 2018-2022, creating the Rogers Park/West Ridge Community Collection that now serves as a valuable resource for researchers and community members alike.

West Rogers Park residents interested in learning more about their neighborhood's history or contributing to the ongoing documentation of community stories are encouraged to contact the Northside Neighborhood History Collection at [email protected] or call 312-742-4455 to schedule a visit to explore the collection.
