Hyde Park film enthusiasts have something exciting to look forward to as the XL Film Festival kicks off its 2026 edition this Thursday, bringing a vibrant celebration of Black storytelling and independent cinema to the neighborhood. Founded by Chicago filmmaker Troy Pryor through his Creative Cypher platform, this year's festival will feature an expanded lineup of film screenings, industry panels, and interactive events across multiple Hyde Park venues.

The festival, which has grown significantly since its inception, will transform locations including Harper Theater, the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center, and various community spaces into hubs for creative exchange. Notable this year is the festival's collaboration with local businesses, offering special promotions at participating Hyde Park restaurants and creating economic opportunities throughout the neighborhood during the week-long celebration.

"Hyde Park has always been a cultural epicenter for Chicago, making it the perfect home for a festival that celebrates diverse voices in film," says festival founder Troy Pryor. Film enthusiasts and aspiring creators are encouraged to visit the festival's website for the complete schedule of screenings, workshops, and special events taking place throughout the week.
