Pilsen Community Books Reopens in New Location with Expanded Spanish-Language Collection

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Pilsen ·

Pilsen's beloved worker-owned bookstore has found a new home. Pilsen Community Books reopened its doors on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 1531 W. 18th St., just a few blocks from its original location. The move provides the bookstore with additional space to expand its offerings, particularly its Spanish-language book collection, reflecting the neighborhood's cultural heritage.

The revitalized space features a significant upgrade with a large event area that can accommodate 80-100 people for book clubs and community gatherings. "It is the same PCB that everyone knows and loves," said Mandy Medley, one of the store's worker-owners, emphasizing the bookstore's continued commitment to serving the community. The bookshop has already scheduled several February events, including a conversation about the current political moment on February 15 and a book talk with author Alice Yang on February 17.

Neighbors interested in supporting this community institution can visit during their regular hours: Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The bookstore is also accepting donations to help cover higher-than-anticipated moving and construction costs through their website. For those unable to visit in person, their online shop has also reopened for orders.
