CHA Approves Major Redevelopment of Historic Loomis Courts on Near West Side
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Near West Side ·
The Near West Side community will soon see a significant transformation of one of its longstanding affordable housing developments. At its January Board meeting, the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) approved Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) as the development partner for the mixed-finance redevelopment of Loomis Courts, a 126-unit affordable housing community on the Near West Side.
The project represents a critical investment in preserving affordable housing options in a rapidly developing area of Chicago. While specific details of the redevelopment plan are still forthcoming, the partnership with POAH signals CHA's commitment to maintaining quality affordable housing in the Near West Side. This continues a pattern of thoughtful housing development in the area, following the recent completion of other successful projects like Westhaven Park Station, a 12-story, 96-apartment residential community where CHA is subsidizing 38 apartments.
Residents interested in learning more about the Loomis Courts redevelopment can attend upcoming CHA public meetings where additional project details will be shared. The Near West Side Community Development Corporation also welcomes community input, as they continue to work with residents to develop sustainable strategies for comprehensive neighborhood development.
