Northwestern Memorial Hospital Unveils Ambitious Tower Expansion to Enhance Streeterville's Medical Campus

Northwestern Memorial Hospital is moving forward with plans for a significant expansion of its Streeterville campus, unveiling details for a new medical tower that will substantially increase its capacity to serve patients. The ambitious project represents a major investment in downtown Chicago's premier medical district at a time when some hospitals are reducing inpatient services in favor of outpatient care.

Set to rise at 333 East Huron Street, the new Robert H. Lurie Cancer Center will transform a long-vacant parcel owned by the hospital into a state-of-the-art medical facility. The center will consolidate Northwestern's cancer care, cardiology, neurology, and transplantation services under one roof, while preserving the eastern third of the site for future expansion opportunities. The impressive 1.2 million square foot tower may begin construction in 2027 following the planned demolition of an underground structure in late 2026. Power Construction and joint venture partner UJAMAA Construction will lead the construction effort, with completion anticipated by 2031.
