$5.5 Million Retail Project to Transform Vacant Garfield Ridge Site Near Midway

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Garfield Ridge ·

A $5.5 million retail project will soon replace long-vacant City land at 4301-37 S. Cicero Ave. in Garfield Ridge, recently announced by Department of Planning and Development Commissioner Ciere Boatright. The 18,000-square-foot, single-story development planned by Blackwood Group LLC and GoVest LLC will include up to 14 storefronts for retailers, service providers, and restaurants. The project will also feature parking for 34 vehicles and enhanced landscaping.

Located approximately one mile from Midway Airport and across from the planned LeClaire Courts mixed-use project, this property has been vacant for more than two decades. The developers have proposed purchasing the .9-acre site at its appraised value of

million. "Given its location between Midway and the Stevenson Expressway and its proximity to existing and planned mixed-use neighborhoods, the site's redevelopment for low-density retail will be a great improvement for this section of Cicero," Commissioner Boatright explained. When fully leased, the development is expected to create up to 80 permanent jobs for the community.

Residents eager to learn more about this transformative project can attend the next Garfield Ridge Chamber of Commerce meeting, where community leaders will discuss how this development fits with other neighborhood improvements. Local entrepreneurs interested in potential leasing opportunities are encouraged to contact the Garfield Ridge Chamber for more information about connecting with the developers.
