Historic Jefferson Park Firehouse Transforms into 'Parlor Station' Small Business Hub with $250,000 Grant

A new chapter begins for Jefferson Park's historic firehouse as the City of Chicago awards a $250,000 community development grant to transform the 120-year-old building into 'Parlor Station,' a small business incubator for salon-related services. The project, located at 4837 N. Lipps Ave., will create space for up to 15 separate hair-style, nail, and skin care operators on the first floor of the former firehouse.
Developer Tim Pomaville of Ambrosia Homes is leading the renovation, which already includes construction of four apartments on the second floor. 'We hope to have it built out by the end of the year,' Pomaville shared about the 4,000-square-foot business incubator space. The building, which served as a firehouse until 1981 and later housed 45th Ward streets and sanitation services until 2010, represents a significant piece of Jefferson Park's architectural heritage being preserved through adaptive reuse.
Jefferson Park residents interested in learning more about leasing opportunities at Parlor Station can contact Ambrosia Homes, and local entrepreneurs in beauty and wellness fields may soon have an exciting new space to grow their businesses. The project joins several other community development initiatives recently funded through the city's $33 million neighborhood improvement grant program.
