McKinley Park Welcomes 'Missing Middle' Housing with New Two-Flats on West 34th Place

McKinley Park residents will soon see new housing options bloom in their neighborhood as part of Chicago's innovative 'Missing Middle' infill housing initiative. The Department of Planning and Development recently announced that five new two-flat buildings will be constructed on the 2400 block of West 34th Place near the CSX railroad viaduct. Developed by Urbanism LLC, the $4.4 million project aims to replace vacant city-owned lots with attractive housing designed for owner-occupants.

"These developments will put vacant city lots into productive use, bring attractive and much-needed infill housing to local blocks while creating home-ownership opportunities that build community wealth," said Ciere Boatright, Commissioner for the Chicago Department of Planning and Development. The selected developer will be able to purchase the city lots for just

each and may receive up to
50,000 in funding assistance for each housing unit, pending City Council approval. The new two-flats are part of a larger citywide initiative that will create 99 housing units across 35 multi-unit buildings in several Chicago neighborhoods, with the buildings to be sold to owner-occupants earning up to 140% of the area median income.
