West Rogers Park Embraces Transit-Oriented Development with New Zoning Updates for 2026
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Rogers Park ·
West Rogers Park is setting the stage for vibrant neighborhood growth as Chicago's pre-April 1, 2026 zoning code updates take effect in the coming weeks. The changes, which were last updated in December 2025, are designed to encourage transit-oriented development (TOD) throughout the neighborhood, creating more accessible and sustainable housing options for residents.
According to Chicago Cityscape's neighborhood development tracking, these zoning modifications will allow for increased residential density near CTA and Metra stations while maintaining the community's distinctive character. The Connected Communities ordinance provisions are expected to reduce parking mandates for new developments near transit corridors, potentially making housing more affordable while encouraging pedestrian-friendly streetscapes throughout West Rogers Park.
Residents interested in learning more about how these zoning updates will shape the neighborhood's future development can attend information sessions hosted by the Rogers Park Business Alliance. Community members can contact RPBA at 773-508-5885 or visit their office at 1448 W. Morse Avenue to get involved in upcoming neighborhood planning discussions.
