By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Englewood ·
West Englewood residents demonstrated their commitment to neighborhood revitalization as the Resident Association of Greater Englewood (R.A.G.E.) hosted its February members-only meeting on February 17th at Englewood Branded Inc. The meeting highlighted overwhelming community support for reopening the long-shuttered Racine Green Line Station, which has gained significant momentum in recent months.
After years of advocacy, the campaign to restore this vital transportation hub has seen remarkable progress, with 93% of area voters recently expressing support for getting Racine back up and running. Community leaders discussed how collaborative partnerships around major infrastructure projects like the Racine Green Line Station are driving neighborhood resurgence alongside other initiatives such as E.G. Woode and the Englewood Community Land Trust. Local leaders including Cecile DeMello from Teamwork Englewood, Deon Lucas from E.G. Woode, Anton Seals Jr. from Grow Greater Englewood, and Felicia Slaton-Young from Greater Englewood Chamber of Commerce are working together to leverage Englewood's creativity and resilience to increase local ownership, wealth and economic development.
Residents interested in joining this growing movement can attend the next R.A.G.E. meeting or visit their website to learn about various community initiatives designed to transform West Englewood. With infrastructure improvements gaining traction, community members are increasingly optimistic about creating better transit access and economic opportunities in their neighborhood.
