First Nations Garden Launches Winter Cultural Series with Indigenous Workshops and Storytelling

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Albany Park ·

The First Nations Garden in Albany Park is launching a special Winter Cultural Series this month, providing a vibrant social space for Chicago's Native community. Created to foster collaboration, representation, accountability, and healing, these events are breathing life into the garden space despite the February chill.

Located at the intersection of Wilson Avenue and Pulaski Road, the First Nations Garden serves as a healing space for Chicago's Indigenous communities while educating the public about Native landscape traditions and ecosystems. The garden has grown into a preeminent cultural and educational hub within Albany Park, offering residents opportunities to learn about Native people still living in Chicago and practicing their culture. "We're not just beads or feathers, we're not mascots - we are neighbors," explains Anthony Tamez, one of the garden's organizers.

The Winter Cultural Series will feature weekly indoor workshops on traditional crafts, storytelling sessions highlighting Indigenous winter tales, and demonstrations of seasonal food preparation. Community members are encouraged to participate in these free events, which will continue through early March. For more information or to register for specific workshops, visit the First Nations Garden Instagram page (@firstnationsgarden).
