Albany Park Says Farewell to a Beloved Institution: Lizard's Liquid Lounge Plans Rockin' 18th Anniversary Goodbye

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Albany Park ·

After 18 years as one of Albany Park's most beloved neighborhood gathering spots, Lizard's Liquid Lounge is preparing to close its doors — and owner Liz Kavanagh wants to go out swinging. The bar, a fixture of the neighborhood's social fabric, will host a joint anniversary and closing celebration its final weekend of April 10–12, with Chicago bands playing live music all three nights.

Kavanagh, who opened the bar and built it into a community cornerstone, says she's choosing to celebrate rather than mourn. "I decided to go out gracefully," she shared, adding that the bar will be missed by the community she's spent nearly two decades serving. Before the final curtain, neighbors can catch one more beloved tradition: the bar's Mardi Gras party this Tuesday, which Kavanagh calls the best in the city, featuring a live band playing New Orleans-inspired music with no cover charge.

For Albany Park residents, Lizard's Liquid Lounge represents something bigger than just a bar — it's a testament to the neighborhood's tight-knit spirit and the power of local gathering spaces. Whether you're a longtime regular or have never stopped in, now is the time to walk through those doors, raise a glass, and celebrate 18 wonderful years alongside the community. Mark your calendars for the April 10–12 farewell weekend and give this Albany Park treasure the send-off it deserves.
