Edgewater's eclectic independent business scene is getting even more interesting this month, with a trio of new and relocating shops bringing fresh energy to the neighborhood's beloved corridors.

First, vintage enthusiasts have a new destination: Andy's Art, Antiques & Oddities has officially settled into its new home at 1138 W. Thorndale Ave. Owner Andrew Johnston originally launched the shop in 2020 on Devon Avenue before seeking a bigger footprint in Edgewater — and the move is already paying off. The store is open Wednesday through Sunday and offers a curated mix of vintage décor, art, and one-of-a-kind finds. Meanwhile, Bryn Mawr Avenue is about to get a magical new neighbor: Roots & Ritual, a mom-and-daughter-owned witchcraft shop currently based in Avondale, is relocating to a connected storefront next to Solar Intentions — the popular non-alcoholic bottle shop at 1056 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. The two businesses will remain independent, but the pairing promises to make that block a must-visit destination. Roots & Ritual's last day in Avondale is March 1, with the Edgewater shop expected to open near the end of March. And just a short walk away, Velvet Rose Tattoo Club has opened at 1333 W. Devon Ave., bringing five talented artists to a previously vacant storefront. The parlor welcomes both walk-ins and appointments and is open seven days a week.
