Foundry Park Gets Green Light: Lincoln Park's Most Transformative Development in Decades Wins City Approval

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Lincoln Park ·

Lincoln Park is on the cusp of its most significant transformation in a generation. On February 18, the Chicago City Council officially approved Foundry Park — a sweeping mixed-use development that will rise on the long-dormant northern section of the former Lincoln Yards site along the Chicago River. The project, led by JDL Development and Kayne Anderson Real Estate, is being celebrated as a true fresh start for a stretch of land that sat underutilized for years.

The approved plan calls for up to 3,737 dwelling units spanning apartments, condos, and a small number of single-family homes and townhouses, along with roughly 350,000 square feet of office space and 420,000 square feet of retail. At the heart of the first phase will be a vibrant 'central square' designed to host farmers markets, winter ice skating, and community gatherings — a true neighborhood hub. The development's tallest building, a 39-story mixed-use tower at Kingsbury and Cortland, will anchor the site, and construction could begin as early as this fall.

City Planning Commissioner Ciere Boatright called Foundry Park a 'course correct' from the original Lincoln Yards vision, praising its emphasis on housing and public amenities. With thousands of new homes, green space, and local retail all planned for Lincoln Park's doorstep, residents have plenty of reasons to be excited about what's coming. Stay tuned to the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce for community updates as the project moves toward groundbreaking.
