Bronzeville to Get 26 Million Hip Hop Museum, Tech Hub, and Hotel in Bold State Street Revival PlanBy Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Bronzeville ·
Big things are taking shape for Bronzeville's State Street corridor. The Chicago Hip Hop Heritage Museum has announced plans to anchor a sweeping new development that could transform the former McCorkle Elementary School site at 4417 S. State Street into one of the South Side's most ambitious community landmarks in decades.
The
26 million Technology Renewable Energy Command Center (TRECC) Global Campus for Youth & Families would be a one-stop destination for culture, career, and community. The first phase of the project would include the museum itself alongside a 111-room hotel, community and workforce centers, and a sports and tech hub with basketball and volleyball courts. A second phase envisions a 393-space automated parking garage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, a microgrid system, and rooftop solar and wind installations — plus a commercial solar workforce training site designed to launch residents into green energy careers. The Hip Hop Heritage Museum had temporarily closed its previous Grand Boulevard home last December, but its curators vowed to stay rooted in Bronzeville, staging pop-ups and collaborations citywide while the permanent campus takes shape. Board member Senyo Ador, co-founder of clean energy firm Sesenergi Eco Solutions Enterprise, is leading the sustainability piece, envisioning the workforce center as a launchpad for solar industry careers. The project joins a wave of investment reshaping the neighborhood — and for Bronzeville residents, it signals that the corridor's comeback is only just beginning.
