Ramen Meets the Coffee Cup: Logan Square's Pedestrian Coffee Launches Weekly 'Masaka Ramen' Pop-Up Every Thursday Night

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Logan Square ·

Logan Square foodies, Thursday nights just got a whole lot more interesting. The owners of Pedestrian Coffee, the beloved café at 2642 N. Milwaukee Ave., have partnered with the team behind the BánhMi Spot to launch Masaka Ramen — a one-of-a-kind weekly pop-up serving coffee-infused ramen bowls right in the heart of the neighborhood.

The concept is the brainchild of Tim Taylor and Le Trinh Hien, with digital support from Logan Square local Sidney Romero. Together, they named the venture Masaka — a Japanese phrase meaning "No way!" or "Unbelievable!" — a fitting name for a menu that's turning heads. Masaka Ramen serves two shoyu ramen bowls made with coffee-infused bone or vegetable broth, with protein options ranging from shredded beef brisket and chicken to tofu, seitan, and mushroom for plant-based diners. The pop-up also dishes out matcha, coffee, and Hōjicha green tea ice cream handcrafted by Taylor and his son. The timing is also a win for the neighborhood: with Furious Spoon's Logan Square location having shuttered last year, Trinh Hien saw an opportunity to bring bold ramen back to Milwaukee Avenue.

Masaka Ramen pops up every Thursday evening at Pedestrian Coffee, with bowls available for pre-order pickup or dine-in. If the response is strong, the team hopes to expand to more nights — and perhaps even a permanent location. Stop by this Thursday and taste something truly unbelievable.
