Edgewater Blooms This Spring: New Homes Coming to Kenmore, Library Marks 35 Years & Seeds Are Ready to Swap
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Edgewater ·
Edgewater is buzzing with fresh energy this March, starting with big news on the housing front. A local developer, 4 Star Builders, has received a permit to construct a five-story, 40-unit residential building at 6143 North Kenmore Avenue — transforming a surface parking lot into much-needed housing. The $5 million project, designed by Hanna Architects, will feature a basement-level garage, decks on all five floors, and two rooftop decks including a pergola-topped top-floor terrace. Construction fencing is already up at the site, signaling that this corner of Edgewater is on the move. And 4 Star has a second building in the works nearby at 6125 North Kenmore — a four-story, 18-unit development — making this block one of the most active construction corridors in the neighborhood.
Meanwhile, the community's cultural calendar is equally full. The Friends of the Edgewater Library are celebrating their 35th Anniversary this year with a slate of special programming and a "Befriend A Book" fundraising campaign to refresh the library's collection. On Tuesday, March 3, Rivendell Theatre Ensemble brought actors and Jeff Award-winning playwright Alex Lubischer to the Edgewater Branch Library for a special preview of *Pivot* — a world-premiere dark comedy running at Rivendell (5779 N. Ridge) through March 21. And if you've got a green thumb itching for spring, the Edgewater Library is hosting an upcoming Seed Swap event where neighbors can get starter plants, swap seeds, and help package seeds for the Edgewater Seed Library — all supplies provided.
Whether you're watching the neighborhood skyline evolve on Kenmore, catching a world premiere at Rivendell, or swapping seeds at the library, Edgewater is making the most of early spring.
