A Fork in the Road (The Good Kind): New Pub-Supper Club Fork & Coin Is Coming to Central Avenue This Summer
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Portage Park ·
Portage Park's dining scene is about to get a delicious new addition. Fork & Coin, a one-of-a-kind restaurant blending American pub-style dishes with Asian influence, is set to open at 3938 N. Central Avenue — right in the heart of the neighborhood, steps from the park's nature garden, pool, and senior center. The Portage Park Chamber of Commerce spotlighted the announcement on social media this week, and the buzz is already building.
Leading the kitchen is chef Drake Mandrell, a familiar face on Chicago's pop-up dining circuit, who is partnering with a team of co-owners to bring the concept to life. The team is targeting a June opening, and the experience promises to go well beyond a standard dinner out: Fork & Coin will offer a supper club, special member events, and — perhaps most excitingly — a dedicated focus on culinary education. As the restaurant's own mission puts it, the focus is on "food, education, community and building a strong local economy." This isn't just a new spot to grab a bite; it's a neighborhood anchor in the making.
And Fork & Coin isn't the only new table being set in Portage Park. Hey Friends Cafe, a family-owned café from husband-and-wife team Victor and Amanda Agosto, is also on its way to 6050 W. Irving Park Road — the former BISTRO 6050 space near Wilbur Wright College — with a goal of opening by end of May. The neighborhood's appetite for fresh, community-rooted dining is clearly strong.
