Garfield Ridge Goes Green: Free Electronics Recycling Drive at Kennedy High School Diverts Tech Waste From Landfills
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Garfield Ridge ·
Garfield Ridge residents got a chance to do right by the environment this weekend — and clean out the garage while they were at it. A free electronics recycling event was held yesterday, Saturday, March 21, in the west parking lot of John F. Kennedy High School, just south of 56th Street and Narragansett Avenue, running from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The drive gave Southwest Siders a responsible way to dispose of old phones, laptops, televisions, and other unwanted electronics that too often end up collecting dust — or worse, in a landfill. The event was made possible through the combined efforts of 13th Ward Alderman Marty Quinn and State Rep. Angelica "Angie" Guerrero-Cuellar (D-22nd), two local officials who've made accessible community services a priority for Garfield Ridge families. Neighbors turned out to take full advantage of the no-cost drop-off opportunity, just steps from the heart of the neighborhood.
Electronics recycling events like this one are a win on every front — less clutter at home, fewer hazardous materials in local waste streams, and a stronger sense of shared responsibility for the community's future. Keep an eye on the 13th Ward's official channels and the Southwest Chicago Post at swchicagopost.com for news of future recycling and community service events in Garfield Ridge!
