West Town Is Becoming Chicago's Most Exciting Food Destination: Three Bold New Eateries Are Putting the Neighborhood on the Map

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Town ·

West Town's culinary scene just got a serious upgrade — and food lovers across Chicago are taking notice. The neighborhood is welcoming a wave of bold, chef-driven concepts that signal just how far its dining reputation has soared.

Leading the charge is Atsumeru, an intimate new fine dining destination that has already turned heads with its hyper-focused tasting menu blending Japanese and Nordic influences. Led by chef-owner Devin Denzer — best known for his acclaimed pop-up dining series Loon — the eight-seat, seafood-forward experience spotlights ingredients like sablefish, monkfish, and oysters, with chefs doubling as servers and storytellers to guide guests through each course. Meanwhile, food lovers with a taste for Europe have two more reasons to get excited. Gilda, a first-of-its-kind Basque-inspired restaurant from Jeremy Leven, Rafa Esparza, and Anthony Baier, is setting up shop at 1450 W. Chicago Ave. with a May 15 opening date, promising dishes like crispy prawn heads and black Basque cheesecake with an unmistakable Chicago edge. And just down the block at 1711 W. Chicago Ave., Guillotine Bakery — from the trio of Vincent Didry, Alizé Bikard, and head baker Vince Le Bec — is bringing authentic Parisian breads, laminated pastries, and imported butter to West Town this spring.

From an eight-seat omakase to a French boulangerie to Basque pintxo-inspired plates, West Town is proving it can hold its own against any dining destination in the city. Follow along at westtownchamber.org and keep your reservations — and your appetite — ready.
