West Englewood Gets a Housing Boost — and the Englewood Jazz Festival Is Turning 25

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Englewood ·

West Englewood is entering spring with two fresh milestones worth celebrating — one rooted in housing stability, the other in the neighborhood's deep musical soul.

First, the Chicago Housing Authority is expanding affordable housing support right here in West Englewood. The CHA is growing its partnership in Chicago's Plan to End Homelessness by increasing Project-Based Voucher assistance at Branch of Hope — a 100-unit supportive housing development on the West Englewood block built in 2010 — from 58 to 68 units. Nearby, Clara's Village, a 52-unit permanent supportive housing community for extremely low-income families with children, is also receiving renewed CHA voucher commitments to guarantee stability for 40 formerly homeless families. Together, these investments send a clear signal: West Englewood families deserve a safe, stable place to call home.

And on the cultural front, something worth marking on your calendar: the Englewood Jazz Festival is celebrating its 25th year in 2026. Now a quarter-century strong, this beloved annual event spotlights homegrown artists and honors the neighborhood's rich jazz legacy — a living reminder that West Englewood has always been a place of creativity, resilience, and pride. Stay tuned to local community boards for this summer's festival dates, and keep an eye on ragenglewood.org for upcoming neighborhood events as the season heats up.
