A New Morning Ritual Arrives: Jujin Brings Global Flavors to Lincoln Park's Coffee Scene — Plus, Neighbors Step Up on Diversey Substation Debate
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Lincoln Park ·
Lincoln Park's culinary scene keeps growing, and coffee lovers have a fresh new reason to make a morning detour. Jujin, a new coffee and breakfast spot, has quietly opened its doors in the neighborhood, serving housemade pastries like sesame rolls and croissants alongside heartier fare including shakshuka and Kurdish-inspired dishes like eggplant kawa — a genuinely distinctive addition to Lincoln Park's already-impressive café lineup.
Meanwhile, on the infrastructure front, Lincoln Park neighbors are making their voices heard in a big way. ComEd has proposed building a large electrical substation at 1111 W. Diversey Parkway — the site of a former COVID-19 testing facility — saying the project is needed to meet surging electricity demand across the North Side and reduce the risk of outages as more homes go fully electric. But residents left a packed community meeting with plenty of questions, raising concerns about the proposed facility's size, safety, and potential impact on nearby homes, schools, and a day care. ComEd officials say the fully enclosed facility would be designed to blend in with the surrounding neighborhood, but acknowledged that final renderings and design details aren't yet available.
This is neighborhood democracy at its best — residents showing up, asking hard questions, and holding institutions accountable. Stay tuned to your alderman's office and Block Club Chicago for updates on the Diversey substation proposal, and stop by Jujin to fuel up for the next community meeting!
