Neighbors Rally to Save North Center's Beloved Senior Center on Oakley Avenue

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/North Center ·

A wave of community spirit is rising in North Center, and this time it's centered on one of the neighborhood's most cherished — and vulnerable — institutions. Residents are mobilizing to urge Catholic Charities of Chicago to keep the North Center Senior Satellite Center at 4040 N. Oakley Ave. open and operating at its current location, after word spread that the longtime hub could be at risk of closure.

For more than 16 years, the Senior Satellite Center has served as an anchor for older residents living in and around North Center's senior campus — a place for connection, support, and community belonging. Neighbors are now calling on Catholic Charities to honor that legacy and preserve the space that so many seniors have relied on for over a decade and a half. The groundswell of support reflects something deeply ingrained in North Center's identity: a neighborhood that looks out for all of its residents, from the youngest families to its most seasoned community members.

If you want to make your voice heard, now is the time to get involved. Share the petition with fellow North Center neighbors, reach out to your 47th Ward Alderperson's office, or connect with community organizers who are working hard to keep this vital resource open. In a neighborhood that continues to grow and evolve, let's make sure no one gets left behind.
