Last Call, Lovingly: Albany Park's Lizard's Liquid Lounge Toasts 18 Years with a Final Farewell Weekend
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Albany Park ·
Albany Park is getting ready to raise one last glass to one of its most beloved neighborhood institutions. Lizard's Liquid Lounge, the dog-friendly bar at 3058 W. Irving Park Road that owner Liz Kavanagh opened on April 12, 2008, is closing its doors for good — right on its 18th anniversary. For nearly two decades, Lizard's has been a warm, welcoming corner of the Northwest Side where neighbors celebrated life's big moments together, and its absence will be deeply felt.
Kavanagh, who moved from Dublin to Chicago about 35 years ago and honed her craft at beloved local spots before opening Lizard's, is sending her bar off in true neighborhood style. The final farewell will be a full weekend celebration — April 10, 11, and 12 — packed with live Chicago bands performing all three nights. It's the kind of send-off that only a true community gathering place could pull off: loud, live, and full of love.
If you've never made it through the doors, Kavanagh has a simple message: it's not too late. Albany Park neighbors have until April 12 to stop in, share a drink, and be part of a proper goodbye. Head to Lizard's Liquid Lounge at 3058 W. Irving Park Road this weekend and help send off a true neighborhood gem the right way — with great music, great company, and one more round for the road.
