Garfield Ridge Goes Green This April: Fruit Trees, Fresh Produce, and a Farmers Market Season on the Horizon

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Garfield Ridge ·

Spring has arrived in Garfield Ridge — and the neighborhood is celebrating in the greenest way possible. Two exciting community milestones are giving Southwest Siders plenty of reasons to get outside and get involved this month and beyond.

First, mark your calendars for a hands-on Earth Day tree-planting event happening right in the neighborhood. Openlands is teaming up with Cultivate Collective members from the Academy of Global Citizenship at 4942 W. 44th St. in Garfield Ridge, where volunteers will plant fruit trees and help tend to the organization's thriving local garden — all in the spirit of Earth Day. It's a perfect opportunity for families, students, and green-thumbed neighbors alike to give back to the outdoors and leave a living legacy in the community. An RSVP is required, so be sure to sign up in advance at blockclubchicago.org before spots fill up.

And for neighbors with fresh produce on their minds, even bigger news is budding: the Garfield Ridge Farmers Market 2026 pre-registration is officially open through the Midway Chamber of Commerce, teasing a warm-weather season of local vendors, homegrown goods, and community connection right here on the Southwest Side. Whether you're a vendor looking to participate or a shopper eager to browse, head to business.midwaychamber.org to stay in the loop. Garfield Ridge's best season is just getting started!
