Farm Fresh & Here to Stay: Green City Market Puts Down Roots in North Center
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/North Center ·
North Center is about to become the year-round home of one of Chicago's most beloved farmers market institutions. Green City Market — the beloved nonprofit known for connecting Chicagoans with local farmers, artisan food producers, and chef-led culinary experiences — has secured a permanent new building at 2457 W. Montrose Ave., planting its flag right in the heart of the neighborhood.
The new North Center home is a major milestone for the organization, which has long operated seasonal outdoor markets in Lincoln Park and the West Loop, plus an indoor market in Avondale. Now, with a dedicated space on Montrose, Green City Market plans to dramatically expand its programming — think chef demonstrations, educational events, and new opportunities for local farmers to connect directly with North Side shoppers. Executive Director Letisha Steele has made clear that the North Center location isn't just an outpost — it's a place to grow. "[North Center] will be a place to really grow what people see at that market and provide more opportunities for farmers," she said. Conveniently located near multiple bus routes and just a half-mile from the Brown Line's Western stop, the space is built for accessibility.
For a neighborhood that already champions fresh food and community connection — and is welcoming Common Pantry's expanded facility this year — Green City Market is a natural and exciting fit. Keep an eye on greencitymarket.org for opening announcements and upcoming community events at the new Montrose Avenue location!
