Knit, Grow, and March: Rogers Park Is Bursting With Community Spirit This Spring
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Rogers Park ·
Rogers Park neighbors have no shortage of reasons to come together this spring, with a heartwarming lineup of community-driven events putting the neighborhood's generous spirit on full display.
First up: grab your needles. The Chicago Knitting Authority is hosting its Knit for Food Knit-A-Thon 2026 in Rogers Park — a 12-hour knitting marathon designed to raise funds and awareness for food insecurity. Knitters of all skill levels are invited to gather, share tips, and create warm goods for a great cause, with 100% of funds raised split equally between Feeding America, World Central Kitchen, No Kid Hungry, and Meals on Wheels. It's a crafty, cozy, and deeply generous way to spend a spring day in the neighborhood.
Meanwhile, A Just Harvest — Rogers Park's beloved community anchor and food justice organization — is keeping the momentum going with a Seedling Sale on Saturday, April 25 at 10am, perfect for neighbors looking to start a home garden this season. And mark your calendars for May 26: the Howard Street Carnaval is already signing up Rogers Park kids ages 5–14 for its Howard Area Kids Section, giving children a place of honor at the front of the annual march. Registration is free, and T-shirts are provided. Visit HowardStreetCarnaval.com to sign your little one up — because in Rogers Park, community celebration starts young.
