A Bronzeville Teacher's Act of Love Is Giving Hundreds of Students Their Perfect Prom Moment — For Free
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Bronzeville ·
Prom season is here, and one Bronzeville educator is making sure no student has to miss out on the magic. Dunbar Vocational High School teacher Tyesa Walton has opened the doors of "Chloe's Closet" — a free boutique tucked inside a former storage room at the school, 3000 S. King Drive — stocked with gently loved gowns, colorful dresses, and shoes organized by size, all available at no cost to students.
Chloe's Closet opened for the season this past Saturday, offering students a boutique-style shopping experience straight out of a dream. Walton is giving away 400 dresses this prom season, welcoming students from all over the city to find their Insta-worthy look. The initiative carries deep personal meaning: Walton launched the giveaway in memory of her daughter Chloe, who died at birth. A Dunbar alumna herself, Walton restarted the project after realizing Chloe would have graduated high school the same year — turning grief into an annual gift for her community.
It's exactly the kind of quiet, powerful generosity that makes Bronzeville special. If you have gently used formalwear to donate — dresses, suits, or shoes — reach out to Dunbar Vocational High School and help Walton keep those racks full for every student who walks through the door.
