Ravenswood Hits the Streets Tomorrow — and Fights for Its Transit Future Today
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Ravenswood ·
Ravenswood is lacing up and speaking up this weekend. Tomorrow, Sunday April 26th, the neighborhood hosts one of Chicago's most beloved running traditions — and this year, it comes with a major milestone. The 30th Annual Ravenswood Run 5K steps off at 8 a.m. at the corner of Hermitage and Wilson Avenues, with more than 3,000 runners expected to wind through the tree-lined streets of Ravenswood and Lincoln Square. Both Fleet Feet Chicago and the Ravenswood Run are marking their own 30th anniversaries simultaneously, making 2026 a doubly historic moment for the race. Proceeds benefit Ravenswood Community Services' food pantry and community kitchen — so every step counts twice.
Off the course, neighbors have something else to celebrate: a brand-new city ordinance that took effect April 1st now allows property owners to build Additional Dwelling Units (ADUs) by right across Chicago — and Ravenswood is already seeing its first permits. One property owner in the neighborhood just received approval to replace a garage with a coach house ADU, a small but meaningful step toward easing the city's housing crunch right here on the North Side.
Meanwhile, the Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce has been busy surveying local business owners and residents to understand the community's concerns around proposed CTA transit cuts — a sign that Ravenswood's civic energy runs just as strong off the race course as on it. Want to get involved? Head to ravenswoodchicago.org to stay connected, and join the run tomorrow morning for 30 years of neighborhood pride in motion!
