Far South CDC's Grand Vision for West Pullman's 115th & Halsted Corridor Takes Shape
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Pullman ·
West Pullman's commercial heartbeat is getting a major boost — and the nonprofit spearheading the change has a plan as big as the Far South Side itself. The Far South Community Development Corporation (Far South CDC) is pressing forward with its transformative redevelopment vision for the commercial corridor at 115th and Halsted streets, anchored by the ambitious Morgan Park Commons project: a 12-acre, 258-unit mixed-use development on the site where a Jewel-Osco store once stood. According to Far South CDC President Abraham Lacy, the organization is actively working with the City of Chicago and Alderman Ronnie Mosley (21st Ward) to launch Phase One — a milestone that would mark a turning point for a corridor that has seen too many storefronts go dark in recent years.
The redevelopment push doesn't stop at Morgan Park Commons. The Far South CDC is also in planning stages for the Maple Park Marketplace shopping plaza at 115th and Halsted, signaling a coordinated effort to revitalize the entire commercial strip block by block. Meanwhile, Habitat for Humanity Chicago continues deepening its roots in the neighborhood, with its 20-unit affordable townhome development — featuring individual garages, community green spaces, and three- and four-bedroom floor plans — rising just across the street from the future Morgan Park Commons site. Together, these interlocking projects are weaving a new fabric of investment, homeownership, and economic life across West Pullman's southern corridors.
