Fresh Groceries & Fresh Starts: Sprouts Farmers Market Is Coming to Jefferson Park — and More Retail Revival Is in the Works
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Jefferson Park ·
Jefferson Park is about to get a major grocery upgrade — and the Northwest Side couldn't be more ready for it. Alderman James Gardiner (45th Ward) confirmed this week that plans are moving forward for a Sprouts Farmers Market at 6200 W. Higgins Ave., the former CVS Pharmacy site at Foster and Higgins avenues. The health-focused grocery chain, which carries fresh produce and specialty food options across more than 450 stores in 24 states, would plant its very first Illinois location right here in Jefferson Park — a landmark win for a neighborhood that has long deserved a modern, full-service grocery option.
The timeline is coming into focus: Sprouts plans to renovate the existing building on the site, with a tentative opening targeted for the end of May 2027. The sale of the property does hinge on the city vacating a narrow strip of city-owned land in the parking lot, but Alderman Gardiner is keeping close tabs on the process. Beyond Sprouts, Gardiner also noted that a developer is eyeing a redevelopment project for the northeast corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Giddings Street — part of a broader push to bring fresh energy to a commercial corridor that has seen stubborn vacancies for years. A mixed-use structure with 28 residential units has also been floated for 4745–57 N. Milwaukee Ave., storefronts that once housed beloved neighborhood mainstays.
This is exactly the kind of investment Jefferson Park has been working toward. Stay connected with the Jefferson Park Chamber of Commerce and Alderman Gardiner's office for updates on the Sprouts timeline — and keep your eyes on Milwaukee Avenue, because the revitalization story is just getting started!
