Rev Your Engines & Watch the Skyline Grow: West Loop's Big Weekend Delivered — And More Steel Is Rising

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Loop ·

West Loop neighbors, the neighborhood proved once again this past weekend that it's not just a great place to live — it's a destination. The Chicago Car Collective brought its CCC West Loop Car Show to 1389 W. Randolph Street on Sunday, April 26, transforming a prime Fulton Market block into a high-octane celebration of automotive culture. The free, all-ages event drew over 1,000 spectators to admire more than 100 cars on display — from jaw-dropping exotics and supercars to rare enthusiast builds — with sponsors and vendors adding to the festive atmosphere. Best of all, the event gave back: proceeds benefited Chicago HOPES for Kids, a nonprofit providing tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment programs to children experiencing homelessness across the city. Car lover or not, that's a combo hard to beat.

Meanwhile, the neighborhood's residential boom is showing no signs of slowing. Site prep is officially underway at 566 West Van Buren Street, where developer Riverside Investment & Development and general contractor Clark Construction have secured all major permits and kicked off work on a striking 12-story, 199-unit apartment building designed by Antunovich Associates. Taylor Excavating is already on site tearing up the old asphalt parking lot, with caisson work beginning in earnest — and residents could begin moving in as early as the end of 2027.

From community car shows with a cause to a rising residential tower, West Loop is living its best spring. Did you catch the car show this past Sunday? Drop your photos and tag your neighbors right here on Socialhood!
