Bricks, Beats & Bookmarks: Lincoln Park Gears Up for Mayfest While a Historic Clark Street Hotel Gets a Major Makeover

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Lincoln Park ·

Lincoln Park is hitting its stride this May with a wave of neighborhood energy — from a landmark building transformation underway on North Clark Street to a can't-miss block party just two weeks away.

Construction crews are hard at work at 2701 N. Clark Street, where the historic Leon Hotel is undergoing a major renovation and expansion. The former Single Room Occupancy building is being selectively demolished ahead of a full revamp that will bring modern residential amenities to the address — including a fitness center, tenant lounge, and secure bicycle parking. Right across the street, the seven-story, 84-unit Maven residential building is also taking shape, with windows fully installed and masonry work well on its way to completion. That stretch of Clark Street is becoming one of the most exciting blocks to watch in all of Lincoln Park.

And mark your calendars: Lincoln Park Mayfest is just around the corner! Returning to the 1000 block of West Armitage Avenue on May 15–17, the beloved annual festival transforms Armitage Avenue into a three-day celebration packed with live music from local bands, a Spring Fine Art Mart, local vendors, food, and drinks. It's Chicago's unofficial summer kickoff — and it's happening right in your backyard. Plus, bookworms have something to look forward to this Sunday, May 3: Independent Bookstore Day at Lilliput Books, 2150 N. Halsted. Head out and support your local indie bookseller!
