Hit the Trail This May: Albany Park's River Park Is Your First Stop on a Summer-Long Tree Walk Series

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Albany Park ·

Spring has officially arrived in Albany Park — and this May, the North River Commission is inviting neighbors to slow down, step outside, and look up. The NRC is launching a brand-new Chicago Park Tree Walk series, and Albany Park's own River Park Fieldhouse (5100 N. Francisco Ave.) is the very first stop. The inaugural walk kicks off this month, with more guided outings planned once per month through August at parks across the area.

Organized in partnership with Openlands TreeKeepers, the guided outdoor walks take participants up close with each park's diverse tree species — from bark to canopy — in a relaxed, educational setting. Whether you're a lifelong nature lover or just looking for a fresh reason to explore your neighborhood green spaces, this is a perfect way to discover Albany Park's wild side. Best of all? No RSVP is required. Just show up at River Park Fieldhouse and let the trees do the talking.

River Park is one of Albany Park's most beloved outdoor destinations, sitting right at the convergence of the Chicago River and canal and offering everything from fishing and kayak rentals to nature trails. Adding a monthly, expert-guided tree walk to that lineup makes it an even richer resource for the whole community. Head to northrivercommission.org for details on upcoming walk dates and locations — Albany Park's green spaces are waiting for you this May!
