First, a moment of neighborhood pride with global reach: the Catholic Theological Union (1407 W. 55th St.), right here in Hyde Park, is celebrating one of its own. Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost — who attended CTU from 1977 to 1982, earning his master's of divinity degree — has been elected the next pope, sending waves of joy through the campus and surrounding community. Closer to home, Hyde Park's young people showed up in a big way this Friday. An eighth-grade student from Kenwood Academy joined thousands of Chicagoans at the May Day rally and march, helping lead the front of the procession alongside fellow students on a school field trip — a powerful reminder that Hyde Park's next generation is engaged, vocal, and ready to make their mark.

As Chicago's oldest community garden sale, it's a beloved neighborhood tradition that fosters South Side gardening projects and brings green-thumbed neighbors together every spring. Meanwhile, the 61st Street Farmers Market is back every Saturday through December, 9 a.m.–2 p.m., with LINK matching up to $25 — fresh, local food right in your backyard.
