Pretty in Pink & Full of Life: Edgewater's Beach Apartments Glow Up, The Lytle House Hosts Neighbors & A WWII Story Comes Home
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Edgewater ·
Edgewater is radiating good energy this first weekend of May — and you can literally see it from the lakefront. The iconic Edgewater Beach Apartments at 5555 N. Sheridan Road are getting their most dramatic makeover in two decades, with crews applying a fresh coat of their signature "sunset pink" paint — all 500 gallons of it — to the 97-year-old co-op's southeast wing. It's the kind of moment that stops joggers on the Lakefront Trail in their tracks, and a beautiful reminder that one of Chicago's most visible buildings is being lovingly maintained for generations to come.
Meanwhile, the neighborhood's social calendar is buzzing. The Edgewater Chamber of Commerce is hosting its next Happy Hour Networking event at The Lytle House — a chance for local business owners, entrepreneurs, and curious neighbors to mix, mingle, and swap business cards over beer, wine, and light bites, all courtesy of the Chamber. Everyone is welcome!
And if you're looking for something a little more literary, mark your calendar for Saturday, May 9, when the Friends of the Edgewater Library present a special author event at the Edgewater Branch Library (6000 N. Broadway). Author Victoria Granacki will share her father's moving story of serving as General MacArthur's mapmaker in the South Pacific during WWII — brought to life through pen-and-ink maps, watercolors, journal sketches, and over 200 letters sent home. It's a deeply personal, one-of-a-kind afternoon. Visit edgewater.org and foelchicago.org to get plugged in!
