Hyde Park Went Wild for Beavers — And the 57th Street Art Fair Is Almost Here

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Hyde Park ·

Hyde Park neighbors, your community packed in a wild weekend — literally. Nichols Park was buzzing on Saturday as Hyde Park hosted Chicago's very first Beaver Festival, drawing families, nature lovers, and curious kids of all ages to the park's winding paths. Children colored animal illustrations, families got hands-on with beaver pelts, and dozens of nature and conservation groups set up along the trails to share their work. It was exactly the kind of grassroots, educational community gathering that makes Hyde Park one of Chicago's most unique and vibrant neighborhoods.

And if you're already looking ahead to June, mark your calendars now: the beloved 57th Street Art Fair returns June 6–7 to Hyde Park for its 79th year, featuring artwork from more than 200 artists. One of Chicago's oldest juried art festivals, it's a South Side tradition that continues to draw visitors from across the region — and showcases just how deeply the arts are woven into the fabric of this neighborhood.

From wildlife education in the park to world-class art on the street, Hyde Park keeps proving it's a neighborhood like no other. Did you make it to the Beaver Festival this weekend? Share your photos and stories with your neighbors right here on Socialhood!
