Your Voice Can Shape Washington Park's Future: The Chicago Park District Wants to Hear From You in 2026
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Washington Park ·
Washington Park neighbors, here's your chance to leave a permanent mark on one of Chicago's most storied green spaces. The Chicago Park District has confirmed it will launch a community planning engagement process in 2026 to shape the vision for Washington Park — the historic 345-acre landscape designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux that anchors the entire neighborhood.
The effort builds on the Washington Park Framework Plan, which was first kicked off in Spring 2022. The project team is led by MUSE Community + Design, a woman-owned urban planning and public engagement firm with deep roots in equity-centered community work, alongside Rudd Resources, a woman- and Black-owned South Side public relations firm handling outreach, and the award-winning Hitchcock Design Group leading technical design. Once complete, the Framework Plan will serve as the guiding document for park improvements — addressing Washington Park's role as a South Side community hub, a citywide destination, and a nationally significant historic landscape.
This is the kind of once-in-a-generation opportunity that shapes a neighborhood for decades. The park already features two gymnasiums, a photography lab, a dance studio, a lagoon, an aquatic center, the beloved Fountain of Time sculpture, a Harvest Garden, and an arboretum — and the Framework Plan will chart what comes next. Watch ChicagoParkDistrict.com for upcoming meeting dates, times, and locations, and stay connected with the Washington Park Advisory Council, which meets every third Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., to make sure your voice is in the room.
