Hyde Park Makes the NYT's Must-Visit List — Plus Jazz, Ballet & a Mother's Day Fashion Show This Week
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Hyde Park ·
Hyde Park neighbors, your neighborhood is getting the recognition it deserves — on a global stage. The New York Times has named Hyde Park to its prestigious '52 Places to Go in 2026' list, a remarkable distinction that shines a spotlight on the South Side's world-class museums, Gothic architecture, lakefront parks, and one-of-a-kind community energy. If you've ever tried to explain to out-of-towners why you love living here, now you can just send them the link.
Closer to home, the neighborhood's vibrant cultural scene kept right on humming this past week. On April 28, Little Black Pearl (1060 W. Fulton Market area, with deep North Kenwood roots) packed the house with more than 100 jazz enthusiasts for a prelude concert featuring vocalist Nanette Frank and her celebrated five-octave vocal range — one of several events leading up to UNESCO's International Jazz Day. And looking ahead to this fall, Hyde Park's own free Jazz Festival is already on the calendar for September 26–27, with diverse artist lineups set to take over outdoor and indoor stages across the neighborhood.
This week's Hyde Park Happenings — as flagged by the Hyde Park Herald — also promises ballet, a game night, and a Mother's Day fashion show, giving neighbors even more reasons to get out and celebrate community. Hyde Park, you're on the map — literally. What's your favorite thing about living in one of the NYT's top places on earth? Share it with your neighbors on Socialhood!
